Released: 25/6/26
Release notes.
v1.5.4 June 2026 release
- Added user renaming via app
- Expanded calibration database to accommodate LCcineND
- LCcommand API v1.0 implemented
v1.4.0 Public release
- Optimised battery status calculations
- Added splashscreen with firmware ID
- Implemented auto-shutdown at low power
- Added warning to switch off main power switch to prevent self-discharge
- Codebase now common to all upcoming LCmini and LCcine devices
Important: Do not unzip the firmware file. The .zip file must be selected directly inside nRF Connect.
Firmware updates are performed using nRF Connect for Mobile, a free Bluetooth utility provided by Nordic Semiconductor. nRF Connect is not a KipperTie product, but is used to deliver firmware reliably over Bluetooth independent of the LCmini control app. You can also find this tool by searching the App Store for “nRF Connect for Mobile” (publisher: Nordic Semiconductor).
Requirements
- LCminiND powered on and nearby
- iPhone with Bluetooth enabled
- nRF Connect for Mobile installed
- The firmware .zip file saved to your phone (do not unzip)
- At least 50% battery on both phone and LCminiND
The update process takes approximately 2–3 minutes. Keep your phone close to the LCminiND throughout.
Installation
1. Transfer the firmware file to your iPhone
- AirDrop the file from your computer, or
- Download it from an email and save it to the Files app
- Ensure the file remains a .zip
2. Connect to LCminiND
- Open nRF Connect
- Ensure Scanner mode is selected
- Find your LCminiND in the device list
- Tap Connect
- Enter your pairing code (top back corner of your device) when prompted
3. Run the firmware update
- Tap the arrows icon in the top bar (DFU / update mode)
- Select Open document picker
- Choose the firmware .zip file
- Tap Start
Do not close the app during the update. After a short while you should see a “Success” message.
4. After the update
- Switch off your LCminiND at its main power switch and restart
- Pull down in the scanner list to refresh
- If necessary, forget the device in your phone’s Bluetooth settings and reconnect
- Confirm normal operation in the LCmini control app
Troubleshooting
- Device not appearing: Power-cycle the LCminiND and refresh the scanner list.
- Connection fails: Forget the device in Bluetooth settings and reconnect through nRF Connect.
- Update fails: Ensure the firmware file is still a .zip, keep the phone nearby, and repeat the update process.

Beta version: v1.7.0
Released: 26-10-26
Release notes
v1.7.0
- Added a saved choice of USB serial (CDC), USB network/browser control (NCM), or USB MIDI 2.0 control.
- Added an optional USB selection menu, opened by a separate button press during the startup splash screen.
- USB control is available only when USB mode is deliberately selected. Each power-on starts in Local mode; USB charging is unchanged.
- Normal Local / Bluetooth / USB mode changes do not restart the device. Changing the saved USB type restarts it once.
- The first wheel movement now adjusts the filter immediately, even when the screen is asleep. The button retains its wake-only first click.
- Added optional API-controlled output damping from 0 to 5 seconds. Damping is off at startup.
- Retained LCcommand API v1 (
api:1). The established JSON command format is retained, with added USB transports and damping commands documented for firmware v1.7.0.

Before you update
Use only the LCminiND download on this page. These instructions are for devices on original production v1.5.1 or v1.5.4 firmware. If your device has older firmware, a C/D beta build, or an uncertain update history, contact KipperTie before updating.
Do not use an old v1.5.4 ZIP to undo this update. Contact KipperTie if you need to return to earlier functionality.
Do not unzip the firmware file. Select the original .zip directly inside nRF Connect for Mobile by Nordic Semiconductor. This is separate from the LC control app.
Requirements
- Your LCminiND and iPhone, both with at least 50% battery.
- Bluetooth enabled on the iPhone and nRF Connect for Mobile installed.
- The matching LCminiND firmware .zip saved in the iPhone’s Files app.
Keep the phone close to the LC throughout. Allow a few minutes and do not interrupt power.
Installation
1. Save the firmware ZIP
Download the LCminiND ZIP on your iPhone, or AirDrop it from your computer. Save it in Files without unzipping it.
2. Connect to your LC
- Turn on the LCminiND and select Bluetooth mode. Close the LC control app so it is not connected.
- Open nRF Connect and select Scanner.
- Find your LC in the device list and tap Connect.
- If prompted, enter the pairing code printed on your device.
3. Install the update
- Tap the arrows icon in the top bar (DFU / update).
- Select Open document picker.
- Choose the LCminiND v1.7.0 firmware .zip.
- Tap Start. Keep nRF Connect open and the LC powered until the update finishes.
Do not erase or reset the device’s settings as part of this update.
4. Restart and check
- After the update finishes, switch the LC off at its main power switch, then switch it on and wake it normally.
- Check that the startup splash shows 1.7.0.
- Check wheel operation and the expected filter response before using the device on a shoot.
- For app control, select Bluetooth mode again, disconnect nRF Connect and reconnect using the LC control app.
Using the new USB options
For traditional USB serial control, the default is CDC. To choose a different USB type:
- Turn the LC on with the normal button hold, then release the button.
- While the startup splash is visible, make a second, separate short button press.
- Turn the wheel to choose CDC (serial), NCM (network/browser), or MIDI (MIDI 2.0).
- Press once to save. The highlight flashes twice; a changed choice causes a restart.
- Use the normal hold-and-release sequence to select USB mode when you want USB control.
The outline follows the wheel; the dotted border marks the saved choice. The main control screen still says USB for all three types. MIDI control requires a compatible MIDI 2.0 application; selecting it does not make the LC control app a USB MIDI controller.
Troubleshooting
- Device not appearing: Wake the LC, select Bluetooth mode, close other connected apps and refresh the Scanner list.
- Pairing fails: Disconnect, forget the LC in the iPhone’s Bluetooth settings if necessary, then reconnect through nRF Connect.
- Update reports an error: Note the exact message. Restart normally and check the splash before retrying; a reconnect error alone does not establish whether installation succeeded. Do not erase firmware or settings to clear an error. Contact KipperTie if the version or device state is unclear.
- Version shown as 5.0.0: An updater may show this internal package version. The LC’s own splash identifies this release as 1.7.0.
- Unexpected filter response: Stop using the device and contact KipperTie before attempting a reset or recalibration.
